Martial arts school Oom Yung Doe provides training in several traditional martial arts styles, including jiujitsu, to students in the Boston area. Oom Yung Doe students have the opportunity to learn from a master-level teacher with a ninth-degree black belt and a support team of martial artists with black belts in the first through seventh degrees.

Jiujitsu was developed in the 16th century in Japan. According to legend, a man noticed the way flexible branches were able to bend and shed their burden of snow while rigid branches broke under the weight. The flexible branch epitomizes the “art of suppleness,” which is what the term “jiujitsu” means, as a martial arts philosophy in which a fighter uses the energy of an enemy’s attack to the detriment of that enemy.

Jiujitsu has become a modern international sport and has inspired numerous spin-off martial arts styles. Today, the Ju-Jitsu International Federation organizes competitions in every major region of the world.
